From Displacement to Determination: Hauwa’s Journey Toward Her Dream Career

Hauwa Ibrahim, a 20 year old from Ngoshe 2 in Gwoza Local Government of Borno State, moved with her family to Abuja 11 years ago due to Boko Haram insurgency. Hauwa is the youngest of seven children and she currently stays with her father and mother who are both crop farmers that grows beans, groundnuts, and corn for both consumption and small scale commercial purpose.

After completing the Thrive Ahead Project’s one month training on administrative & digital skills with mentorship, Hauwa began her internship at Pseven Medical Center. She has greatly improved her computer skills and now assists in data collection, taking patients’ vital signs and administering doctor-prescribed medications. Hauwa enjoys the supportive work in the hospital environment and is interested in learning more from the nurses around her.
Hauwa is determined to pursue a career in nursing which is her dream and this makes her internship in the hospital more interesting. The internship has built her confidence and given her hope for a brighter future. With every step from the training to internship, Hauwa is not only shaping her own path out of poverty but also that of her family and her community towards lasting change.
