Rahab’s Significant Change

Rahab’s Significant Change

From just selling fried potatoes and “Monzaquela” (sugarcane candy) Rahab James has taken to rearing goats as a process of increasing her income. As a mother of 6 seeking to change her livelihood and better support her family, Rahab is a self-driven woman who takes the initiative to control the challenges she faced rearing her goats.

Rahab and her herd

Upon receiving 3 goats as a beneficiary of the Transforming Livelihood Project, Rahab knew that a significant change was about to take place in her life. After few months of rearing her goats, Rahab says, “Two of my goats died leaving their kids, to avoid losing another one I ran to a doctor to attend to my sick goat; the doctor advised me to sell it immediately, which I did. I sold it for #7000 Naira ($19.44 USD) and I bought a new goat from another village at the rate of #6000 Naira ($16.67 USD) and used the remaining #1,000 Naira ($2.78 USD)to get milk to feed the kids whose mothers had died and also medicines to immunize all my goats”.

“One of my pregnant goats was stolen, which caused me to be unhappy, but now I am grateful to God that I am a proud owner of 9 goats”, says Rahab. She is now able to make significant financial contributions to her family’s needs.

Rahab’s future plans include expanding her herd, use the money generated from the sales of her goats to send her children to school and also start a small scale business.
